Localize Festival

The Localize Festival occupies the intersection of urban space and contemporary art, transforming forgotten or transitional locations in Potsdam into temporary cultural hubs. For several editions of the festival, the visual communication was defined by a series of custom key visuals and trailers designed to capture the specific atmospheric and conceptual essence of each site. In 2011, the design reflected the industrial history of a former data center through a modular graphic system, while the 2012 edition utilized organic forms and a playful palette to contrast the historical strictness of the Lustgarten park. For the 2014 festival in a vacant downtown lot, a high contrast “color bang” inspired by construction motifs brought life to grey city walls, followed in 2015 by “Localize Eight and Zero,” which merged urban street art with nostalgic wallpaper patterns to activate the space between suburban residential blocks. Across these years, the communication materials focused on high visibility and unique perspectives, using hand sprayed elements, bold color shifts, and geometric abstractions to highlight the potential of unutilized urban spaces and invite public participation.
